Photovoltaic Modelling
Beschrijving
Modelling is an important tool for gaining deeper insight in the working principles and loss mechanisms of solar cells and photovoltaic systems. Researchers use this insight to develop more efficient solar cells and to maximize the energy yield of photovoltaic systems.
In this course we will cover the entire photovoltaic modelling chain: modelling of photovoltaic materials, devices (solar cells), modules and systems. The focus will be on understanding the working principles of these models, and using them to analyse the effects of design parameters on solar cell and photovoltaic system performance.
The online course material consists of two parts, each consisting of several phases:
1) PV materials and device modelling
1.1) PV materials and device characterization
1.2) optical modelling of PV devices
1.3) electrical modelling of PV devices
2) PV systems modelling
2.1) modelling of irradiance
2.2) modelling of energy yield
In addition there will be software demos, given by expert users, allowing you to familiarize yourself with the advanced modelling software commonly used by PV researchers.
The prior knowledge from the courses PV basics and PV systems is required. This course PV modelling will prepare you for an MSc thesis project that involves modelling of solar cells or photovoltaic systems, as well as a future career in photovoltaics research.
