Electrical Power Systems of the Future
Beschrijving
The course deals with the development of the electrical power infrastructure as an integrated system consisting of the power grid, electricity production, and load. The impact of large-scale integration of sustainable energy sources (such as wind and solar power) on system reliability and security of supply will be explained.
Advanced concepts (MT-HVDC, FACTS, interaction between DC and AC, WAMPAC, H2 integration, interaction between transmission and distribution) are treated. The main principles of markets and services (system services, transmission services, ancillary services) will be highlighted.
The course aims to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the reliability issues involved in power system design and operation.
Toetsing
Practicum assignments and digital exam/re-exam
The final grade comprises: i) 2.5 points achieved through the 5 practicum assignments (0.5 each); ii) 7.5 grade of the final exam (or re-exam). The maximum achievable final grade is 10. At least 6/10 is needed to pass the course. In case of obtaining a grade lower than 6/10, all parts of the course (exam/re-exam and practicum) need to be retaken.
In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations.
