Digital Communication Systems
Beschrijving
In this course, mathematical models and methods are given to describe and evaluate communication systems for the transmission of digital signals:
- basics of signals and systems:
* description of signals and decibel notation,
* time-domain versus frequency-domain: LTI-systems, convolution, impulse response, Fourier-transformation, transfer function, filtering and definition of bandwidths,
- propagation loss in guided (cable) and unguided (wireless) media,
- noise and system noise calculations (link-budget),
- signal sampling, analogue pulse modulation (PAM, PCM, Delta-modulation),
- digital waveforms in baseband, power spectral density and spectral efficiency,
- line codes,
- bandpass signals and -systems: complex baseband description, modulation, demodulation, generic transmitter and receiver concepts: super heterodyne and direct conversion receiver,
- digital modulation techniques (OOK, FSK, BPSK, QPSK, MSK, QAM),
- matched filtering,
- bit error probability after detection of digital signals.
