Integrated Project 2

Build, program and operate a functional autonomous mobile robot.

The students will have to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in the area of digital electronics, sensor technology and energy conversion.

The IP-2 project 'Smart Robot Challenge' is dedicated to design and build a wireless controlled robot that can autonomously perform a predefined set of tasks. The basic hardware is available at the beginning of the course, i.e. robot platform, Zigbee modules, battery and optical and acoustic sensors. The hardware must be extended such that the robot can transfer electrical energy contactlessly, and the robot must be programmed such that it is able to drive through a maze guided by a programme that runs on a PC.

With this, SystemVerilog programming and C programming are employed so that the robot can complete the various challenges and win against other teams robot the final competition.

The assessment will be based on:

1. Robot performance

2. Final project report

3. Oral group presentation and defense

A peer review is used in order to take into account indvidual performance within the group.

All elements of the project, including the mentorship activities, should have a pass, in order to get a pass for the course. If a student does contribute enough to the project according to the staff, the student may get an extra assignment, or may even be excluded from the course.

In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 2 Exameneisen, Clause 4, of the Uitvoeringsregeling 2023-2024.
