Applied Image Processing

The course provides an overview of image processing with a deeper focus on applications for visual data. This will include: image representations, color models, linear filters, image sampling, digital photography (including HDR and tone mapping), image retargeting, image abstraction and non-photorealism, multiscale image processing (pyramids, Fourier transform), geometrical image transformations (warping, morphing), and neural image processing (concept, texture synthesis, style transfer, super-resolution, denoising, editing). 

The final grade of the course consists of the following components:

• Digital Exam (weighting 50%)

• Group Assignment (weighting 50%)

Final grade calculation = 0.5 * Digital Exam + 0.5 Group Assignment

A passing final grade for the course can only be earned if both components are at least a 5.0 and the weighted final grade (rounded to 0.5) is at least a 6.

The group assignment can lead to individual grades and not necessarily a single grade for all group members.

In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations.
Repairs are individual and the group assignment can only be repaired, if the exam (without repair) was superior or equal to a 6.0.

• Digital Exam: Resit opportunity, either a digital, written or an oral exam, depending on the number of students.

• Group Assignment: Repair opportunity in form of an individual project.
