Inclusive Speech Technology
Beschrijving
In Inclusive Speech Technology, students learn fundamental concepts, techniques, and applications in speech technology, with a strong focus on fairness and inclusivity, i.e., developing speech technology that can be used by everyone, irrespective of how one speaks. The course teaches students the fundamentals about human speech production and automatic speech processing and production techniques with a focus on statistical methods and deep learning. The focus of the course is on developing skills for developing speech-based applications that can be used in conversational AI applications. Knowledge will be obtained through interactive lectures; while research skills will be developed in weekly labs in which concrete speech technology applications will be built.
Toetsing
The final grade of the course consists of the following components:
Digital Exam (weighting 50%)
Individual Report: individual report on the term project describing the design, evaluation and discussion of an inclusive speech processing system (weighting 50%)
Final grade calculation = 0.5 * Digital Exam + 0.5 * Individual Report
A passing final grade for the course can only be earned when for all components at least a 5.0 is earned, and the weighted final grade is at least a 5.8.
In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations, for:
Digital Exam: Resit opportunity
Individual Report: Repair opportunity
