Beschrijving

High-Performance Analysis Systems cover systems for user interaction with data that put a special emphasis on performant implementations. The data sets can be results of numerical simulations or measurements (scientific visualization), or other data collections such as databases (information visualization). The goal is to improve insight into, understanding of, and/or communication about the data. Therefore, three parts are taken into account:

  1. Computer-Human Interaction: How to design interfaces and how to mitigate cognitive biases?

  2. High-Performance Computing: How to implement algorithms that can process and visualize (large) data sets quickly?

  3. Analytics and Applications: How can these aspects be integrated into coherent analysis systems?

Toetsing

The final grade of the course consists of the following components:

  • Written Exam (weighting 40%)

  • Group Assignment 1: visualization project - visualization algorithm (weighting 20%)

  • Group Assignment 2: visualization project - computer-human interaction (weighting 20%)

  • Group Assignment 3: visualization project - high-performance computation (weighting 20%)

Final grade calculation = 0.4 * Written Exam + 0.2 * Group Assignment 1 + 0.2 * Group Assignment 2 + 0.2 * Group Assignment 3

A passing final grade for the course can only be earned when for all components at least a 5.0 is earned, and the weighted final grade (rounded to .5) is at least a 6.

In case of an insufficient final result, repair options may exist in accordance with Article 17A, Times and number of examinations, sub 1, of the Teaching and Examination Regulations, for:

  • Written Exam: Resit opportunity, either written or oral exam, depending on the number of students.

  • Group Assignment 1: Repair opportunity

  • Group Assignment 2: Repair opportunity

  • Group Assignment 3: Repair opportunity
