Rainfall in the City

• Urban pluvial flooding: costs, risks and trends.

• Characteristics of flood producing rainfall systems

• In-situ measurements of rain: rain gauges and disdrometers

• Opportunistic rainfall measurements: citizen gauges and microwave links

• Introduction to weather radar

• Quality control, adjustment and merging of radar with ground observations

• Rainfall extremes, return periods, IDF curves, design storms

• Introduction to urban hydrology, rainfall runoff, infiltration, peak flow

The assessment consists of 3 written assignments (70% of final grade) and one final written exam (30% of final grade). The grade for each part must be at least 5.
