Seminars in M&T: Case Studies
Beschrijving
The course consists of 2 phases in which groups of 4-6 students work together to (1) analyse multiple case studies and (2) present their findings in a seminar.
(1) Case study analysis, weeks 1-6
Groups choose (in consultation with the course coordinator) a type of infrastructure, technology, service or system that is related to the domain of M&T and has recently been implemented. Examples are mobility hubs, park-and-ride facilities, large-scale bicycle parking, in-car driver assistance technologies, connected vehicles, autonomous shuttles, long-distance bus services, sustainable city logistics, various forms of shared mobility, car-free inner cities, shared space, transit-oriented development, network-wide traffic control, smart traffic lights and road pricing. In weeks 1-6 groups search, select and analyse multiple associated case studies. The analysis includes examining the spatial, technological and societal aspects of these specific case studies, how they integrate in the local/regional multimodal transport system, and their performance and (sustainability) impacts. These insights should then be synthesized towards main lessons learned and evaluated in terms of theoretical support, empirical evidence and generalisability (where students can also draw from the understanding gained in the other Minor courses).
(2) Seminars, weeks 7-9
In weeks 7-8 groups prepare a seminar to present their insights from the case study analysis phase. The preparation includes formulating learning goals, choosing effective seminar activities, setting the agenda, distributing roles/responsibilities to all group members to execute the seminar event and creating the (presentation) materials to be used at the seminar.
Seminars are held in week 9. A seminar is approximately 45-60 minutes of presentations and audience engagement (e.g., discussions, polls, etc.) and is moderated by the group.
