Research topics minor Bend and Break

The course consists of two to three current research topics, which may differ per study year. This year the three topics cover engineered meta-materials and sensitive magnetic properties of structural steel. These meta-materials can efficiently absorb deformation energy or waves and vibrations, while the magnetic effect can provide new insights into the loading state of existing structures. Each topic is presented in a few lectures or workshops to familiarize the student with the background, theory, model and possible applications. This forms a basis for the experiments that the student carries out in a small group in the laboratory. The data and observations must be discussed and explained in a final report.
