The goal of this course is for students to further develop a responsible attitude that will contribute to the role they play in their future careers. Students will learn to make and reflect on choices related to Responsible Computer Science Engineering with an ethical and sustainable stance and act with integrity. Students will engage with social, organizational, professional, and technical aspects of developing Computer Science, from both systems and human-centric perspectives. Topics discussed include entrepreneurial dilemmas, craftship/professionalism, safety/privacy and data governance, transparency, non-discrimination, fairness, inclusivity, accessibility, and accountability.

The course will run in the first year of the master, in quarter 3. Responsible CS Engineering-related content in courses in quarter 1 and 2 will be a means for students to start reflecting on their professional roles and on their work in the different courses and projects they undertake. No deliverables are expected nor required in quarter 1 and 2

In this course, students will be presented with organizational, social and technical approaches towards designing and developing Ethical and Responsible Computer Science, integrity and ethics in Computer Science and engineering, discuss and engage with colleagues on their duties and roles in their future careers, connect different perspectives related to ethical and responsible Computer Science as they think of new problems, and prepare their final presentations.
