Plates and Slabs

CIEQ5002B replaces CIE4180 Plates and Slabs, the latter course being discontinued with the introduction of the new MSc Curriculum Civil Engineering in September 2022.

CIEQ5002B contains a subset of the learning objectives of the larger module CIEM5000 Structural Engineering Track Base (15 ECTS), all taken from Learning Unit 2 "Mechanics of Slender Structures" from both the 2nd and 3rd educational period (Q2 and Q3).

Please notify the lecturer Dr. Tsouvalas in advance in case you take this course as student from the old CE-Programme, in order to allow for correct administration of your grade.

Please notify the responsible lecturer of CIEM5000 unit 2 in advance in case you take this course as student from the old CE-Programme. This is required in order to allow for correct administration of your grade. For the equivalent course CIEQ5002B, the focus will be only on plates and slabs aspects of CIEM5000.

Material delivered in Q2 will be assessed on the basis of a written exam. You will only have to answer the plates and slabs-related questions of the regular exam for CIEM5000 unit 2 in Q2. Again, notify the lecturer well in advance of the exam that you plan to take the questions for CIEQ5002B.

In Q3, the assessment will be on the basis of an assignment, focussing on the aspects related to plates and slabs. This is one out of three assignments for CIEM5000 unit 2.

The weight for the assessments above are as follows:

- Mechanics of Slender Structures - Written Exam (Q2) 50%

- Mechanics of Slender Structures - Assignment report (Q3) 50%

For each of the two partial grades, a minimum grade of 5.0 is required.see CIEM5000
