Hydraulic Structures 2
Beschrijving
IMPORTANT: This course is part of the transitional arrangement and therefore open only for students in the old MSc program. The former course CIE5313-18 (Hydraulic Structures 2) has been replaced with the unit HOS-A-2 (Design of Hydraulic Structures) within the CIEM4110 module (6ECTs).
The unit enables students to produce a conceptual engineering design of common hydraulic structures, building on already acquired skills. Students learn to analyse a problem to formulate a design objective, which leads to a functional-spatial design. This is followed by a structural design where next to stability and strength checks, constructability plays a major role. The student further develops skills to motivate assumptions, methods and values of design parameters, using basic sketches. Hydraulic, geotechnical and structural aspects are addressed in coherence to understand the behaviour of these structures.
Toetsing
The assessment for this module consists of:
- Individual Written Exam: 33 %
- Group Design Project: 67 %
Both the individual exam and the final deadline for the group design project take place at the end of the education period (Q3).
To successfully pass the module, all components of the assessment must be evaluated with a pass-grade. A successful participation in the module, requires a minimum evaluation of 5.8 in all units.
For more information on grading, see article 14 in the Rules and Guidelines (RGBE):
