CO2 Neutral Structures

Beschrijving

The module consists of three parts.

The introductory part will be provided by responsible instructors covering various structural expertise focusing on sustainability aspects of the built environment in which load bearing structure is made of concrete, steel, timber or as hybrid system (steel, biobased, concrete). Different views on interpreting basic terms used in policy documents and literature relevant to CO2-neutral structures/built environments will be discussed.

In the second part, case studies of flagship projects in terms of CO2-neutral structures will be presented by architects and engineers from industry and related disciplines.

In the third part of the module, students (in a group of max 4 students) will select one of the presented case studies and provide an alternative solution with the intention to improve solution addressing weaknesses of the presented solutions with a focus on CO2 neutrality.

Toetsing

Short, one-week tasks during the course, to exercise various aspects of built environment with respect to sustainability.

A written report, and a presentation at the final workshop with all teachers and guests present.

The grading will be done using criteria for projects at MSc level.

A successful participation in the elective requires a minimum grade of 5.8.
