Hydraulic Structures
Beschrijving
HOS-A1 Hydraulic Structures: 9ECs
HOS-A-1 Ultimate Strength en Fatigue: 33%
HOS-A-2 Design of Hydraulic Structures: 67%
The module enables students to produce a conceptual engineering design of common hydraulic structures, building on already acquired skills. Students learn to analyse a problem to formulate a design objective, which leads to a functional-spatial design. This is followed by a structural design where next to stability and strength checks, constructability plays a major role. The student further develops skills to motivate assumptions, methods and values of design parameters, using basic sketches. Hydraulic, geotechnical and structural aspects are addressed in coherence to understand the behaviour of these structures.
The content of the module contributes to the MUDE and Ethics learning lines.
Toetsing
The assessment for this module consists of:
- Individual Exam: 50 %
- Group Design Project: 50 %
Both the individual exam and the final deadline for the group design project take place at the end of the education period (Q3).
The content of the individual exam is evenly divided over the involved units, so that 50% of the exam problems are related to unit HOS A1-1 (Ultimate Strength and Fatigue) and 50% of the exam problems are related to the content of unit HOS A1-2 (Design of Hydraulic Structures). To pass the course, participants must score a pass grade, i.e. at least a 5.8, on both the project and the written exam.
A successful participation in the module, requires a minimum evaluation of 5.8 in all units.
For more information on grading, see article 14 in the Rules and Guidelines (RGBE):
