Beschrijving

The elective Dredging for Sustainable Infrastructure consists of 11 themes:

- History of dredging technology supporting hydraulic infrastructure.

- Workability of dredging and offshore operations.

- Equipment for maintenance and capital dredging.

- Dredging processes: breaching, cutting theory, hydraulic transport, hopper sedimentation, bed agitation, and bed levelling.

- Source to impact: processes and source terms.

- Environmental impacts: turbidity, sound, and emissions.

- Assessment of dredging-induced turbidity.

- Assessment of energy consumption during dredging activities and CO2 emissions.

- Land Reclamation by hydraulic filling.

- Survey, environmental monitoring, adaptive management.

- Dealing with uncertainties.

- Data science for dredging practices.

Toetsing

Preparatory materials prior to each lecture (recommended reading).

Lecture questions/polls/discussion are addressed with oral feedback.

Several group assignments.

Training sessions provide feedback on how to address assignments.

The student will be evaluated on the basis of one summative assessment consisting of a case study to be carried out as group project.

A successful participation in the elective requires a minimum grade of 5.8
