Interdisciplinary Mechanics and Design for CE

Unit 1 (4EC): Provides an overview of how the surrounding social-technical-natural-economic environment challenges CE designs and teaches students how to take this into account in design by applying principles of Systems Engineering in an Open Design Learning approach.

Unit 2 (5EC): Provides students with basic concepts, equations and mathematical tools of continuum mechanics relevant to all disciplines of civil engineering, teaches them to reduce the basic problems to simpler engineering forms (i.e., Laplace-type, wave-type, diffusion-type and 29 transport-type equations), equips them with a unified and coherent framework for analysis of the obtained PDEs to analyse the system behaviour, and enables them to recognize the differences and similarities between the various mechanical problems across civil engineering.
