Beschrijving

Execution of a Conceptual Design Project (CDP) based on the Stage Gate Product-Development Process (SGPDP) approach within a project team of 5-6 students. The design project generates a conceptual design for an integrated manufacturing process and/or a chemical product/device.

The assignments are of high practical relevance as they are mostly delivered and co-supervised by industry.

Toetsing

Assessment is based on the following team deliverables: a concept design report, a final report, presentations (kick-off, concept, final), the defence (made during the final presentation) and a peer review.

Each deliverable (concept design report, final report, presentations, the defence) contributes to one final course grade. Detailed assessment criteria can be found in Grading Criteria section in the Bright Space course environment and in the CPD Manual (also in Bright Space).

The Peer review will assess individual contribution to idea generation, knowledge, project execution and deliverables, the quality of communication and task management (incl meeting deadlines). The peer review is used to establish individual marks using a weighing factor of 0.5

The grades are weighed per assessment category as follows:

Theory and concepts (40%) = quality of design
Implementation (30%) = group performance, use of creativity tools, innovativeness, concrete result
Communication (30%) = progress meetings, reports, presentations

Due to the nature of this course resits cannot be taken for the design project. Students who do not secure a passing mark in the Design Project can participate in the next academic year.

Notes on fraud: Final reports will be screened for plagiarism. Misuse of Chat GPT and free-riding are also defined as a type of fraude. In order to prevent free-riding in a group, it is important to make clear agreements and records. Be sure to approach your lecturer promptly if there are problems in your group and not everyone is making an equal contribution. To report fraud go to you Coach and/or the Board of Examiners.
