External Research Project

This orientation is especially tailored for students who will do a PhD after completing their master education.

For this 15 EC version the student perform a research project for 2,5 month full-time (or equivalent part-time) in a research section different from the one where the thesis is done, preferably at at least a different department. It is encouraged and recommended to do it at another university or knowledge institute, in the Netherlands or abroad. Examples of knowledge institutes are the FOM institutes (such as Amolf, ARCNL, NIKHEF, DIFFER) and foreign equivalents (such as Max Planck Institutes, ICFO)

The research topic may be, but does not need to be a typical chemical engineering topic, it may be widening the expertise of the student. However, it should fall within the scope of science and technology, and ideally the chemical engineering background the student brings to project is still beneficial.
