Beschrijving

The subsurface is increasingly used to store fluids associated with energy and for climate change mitigation. There are many potential technologies, and each has its place. In this module, the key technologies which are available and under-development are detailed, including key aspects of flow of fluids in the subsurface. These concepts are utilised to evaluate the technologies, such that we can efficiently use the subsurface. Students will move from broad concepts and how to assess the applicability (Learning Unit 1), through theoretical aspects of how the systems work (Learning Unit 2) to evaluation and design (Learning Unit 3).

Formative assessment (feedback)

Learning Units 1 and 2
During the first two units weekly tasks have to be delivered. Tasks comprise written reports based on laboratory experiments, computer exercises and theoretical knowledge. In addition, class quizzes will be given.

The tasks will be formatively assessed on completeness and quality by involved lecturers. These build towards: (i) the portfolio, and (ii) the activities in Learning Unit 3.

Learning Unit 3
Groups will give weekly presentations on their progress and considering different stakeholders. The presentations will be formatively assessed on completeness and quality by involved lecturers, and peer feedback will be solicited. In addition, formative peer feedback within the group will encourage equal contribution.

Summative assessment (groting)

Portfolio of individual learning activities at the end of Learning Units 1&2
50% of final module grade.

Assessment based on:

  • Individual cumulative grade. Combination of (approximately) weekly assignments defined during lectures and workshops of Units 1 and 2. The students will have received formative comments after each assignment and can upgrade the assignments for the final grade.

Integrated module assessment at the end of Learning Unit 3
50% of final module grade.

Assessment based on:

  • Group report

  • Group presentation at the end of the project

  • Answering questions after the presentation

  • A 1-2 page(s) individual report on critical evaluation of all group studies (also to stimulate reading others group reports and actively ask questions during presentations and evaluate based on capacity, efficiency, safety, exergy, public perceptions, ).

  • A successful participation in the module, requires a minimum evaluation of 5.8 in all examinations
