Tissue Biomechanics
Beschrijving
This course involves lectures and interactive group discussions.
In the lectures, the biomechanics of various tissue types (e.g., bone, cartilage, tendon, ligament, muscle, and vessel) in the human body will be introduced. The students will be guided through the topics of these tissue types, focusing on structure-function relationship, material behavior (experimental examples), combined with modeling approaches and clinical application. The fundamental knowledge on continuum mechanics, required for a good understanding of tissue biomechanics, will be provided as well. Additionally, experts will be invited to present some current scientific research in the field of tissue biomechanics.
During the group discussions, the students will be expected to read and take a deeper dive into selected tissue-specific research article(s) and discuss the topic's background, approach, methods, results, and limitations with their peers. Active participation in these group discussions is obligatory in order to take the final examination.
