Anatomy and Physiology

In this course, we will focus on the following topics:

1. Introduction to human physiology (human body, homeostasis, mass transport)

2. Physiology of various cell types (endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, nurons, and osteoblasts)

3. Musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, musles)

4. Nervous system (nerve cells, neurophysiology, central nerve system, peripheral nervous system and reflex activity, autonomic nervous system)

5. Cardiovascular system: blood (blood cells, blood flow, blood pressure, vascular compliance, clotting, Newtonian flow).

6. Cardiovascular system: heart (anatomy, coronary circulation, cardiac muscle fibres, cardiac output).

7. Respiratory system (respiration, transport and exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, control mechanisms of respiration.

You will take two digital exams for this course, in Q1 and Q2. These will cover the material of the respective quarters. Both exams account for 50% of your grade. The (digital) resits are in the Q2 exam period (resit for the Q1 exam) and in the Q3 exam period (resit for the Q2 exam).
