(Re)Imagining Port Cities: Understanding Space, Society and Culture Q2
Beschrijving
Designing is imagining the future. In a time of climate change and multiple transitions, a "designerly" attitude is needed more than ever. At the same time, understanding past practices and sociocultural conditions is an essential basis for new interventions.
In this minor, the phenomenon of port cities is studied from cultural, social and historical perspectives. Research studies of the city's past and present are conducted to learn about the city. And interventions are designed, ideas conceived and tested to make the city future-proof. To learn to think like a designer, the basic skills of the design process are made explicit as much as possible.
The focus in this quarter (BK 7941) is on the city as a whole and in a larger - historical, socio-cultural, economic - context.
It is a continuation of the first quarter (BK 7940), where the focus was on understanding space in the port city, and more specifically people in the city, at the waterfront.
