Systems in the City: Sustainable Urban Design
Beschrijving
This course is part of the minor "Sustainable Urbanism: the Green-Blue City".
Course overview
The programme consists of two courses of a total of 15 ECs.
- Systems in the City: Sustainable Urban Design (studio) (BK7575): 10 ECs
- Basic Techniques for Sustainable Urban Design (BK7215): 5 ECs
An important task of urban planners and designers is to introduce and design sustainable urban interventions, creating future proof neighbourhoods within the framework of a green blue city. In the Sustainable Urban Design studio 'Systems in the City' of this minor a sustainable urban design is the main subject. In this studio the minor students will develop design proposals, in interdisciplinary teams. Focus in the studio is on concrete sustainable design exercises. The course Basic Techniques for Sustainable Urban Design will make the minor students equipped and prepared to perform well in the design studio. They will apply theory and use their knowledge background in the group design process.
In this course you will learn:
- to recognize inner-city problems caused by climate change and social aspects;
- to recognize sustainable urban plans and sustainable measures in urban plans;
- use knowledge of climate change effects and the spatial implications of adapting to climate change in sustainable urban plans;
- to develop, integrate and evaluate spatial interventions for a future proof urban plan;
- to collaborate with students from other disciplines in order to improve own (basic) urban design skills, research skills and writing skills, and help improve these skills of others;
- to argue comprehensively for choices made in the design process, considering spatial, social and procedural circumstances;
- to give relevant feedback on content and presentation to peers, and accept and react on received feedback.
