Beschrijving

This second course of the minor 'The Healthy Inclusive City' consists of interdisciplinary group work, in which students from different backgrounds work together on a real-life case study with a complex set of problems related to urban health and inequalities. The case study will build on the data collected and analysis from the Action Research course (BK7570) to develop a design brief and create integrated socio-spatial strategies that addresses the identified problems and opportunities. Obviously, you are encouraged to align your literature review papers (BK7560) with the research part of the project. The group work extends over seven weeks of the minor and students work in the same project team formed in the Action Research course, of approximately 3-4 students. Each team will draft a design report, outlining the identified challenges, the design brief, and the resulting socio-spatial strategies. Towards the end of the minor, the teams will present their case study analysis and design, process the feedback from instructors and fellow students, and subsequently submit the final version of the design report.

This course is part of the 15 ECTS THIC minor intended for students who are highly motivated to develop an interdisciplinary perspective on designing healthy and inclusive cities. Students from different backgrounds will acquire a thorough understanding of these concepts and learn how to analyse related questions from the academic disciplines of urban geography, urban health, sociology, urban planning and design, and public administration. You will also be trained to apply this knowledge in designing socio-spatial strategies in Dutch planning cases aimed at mitigating urban inequalities.
