Lecture Series and Review Paper (discontinued)
Beschrijving
This first course of the minor 'The Healthy Inclusive City' offers interactive lectures introducing the context, themes and key concepts in the minor: urban design, city planning, public health (e.g., physical, psychological, social, environmental health), socio-spatial inequalities and inclusion. For the interactive lectures, background literature will be provided on Brightspace. In turn, students will prepare statements and questions in relation to each lecture. Some of the lectures will be provided by instructors from other universities.
After three weeks, students will select a theme or concept based on the lectures and write a literature review paper (max. 4200 words) with a research question that is approved by the instructors. This review should not only include a discussion of one of the key concepts but also an analysis of its spatial implications. During the paper-writing process, regular feedback will be provided by instructors. Each student will be assigned to a paper tutor for individual feedback (with a maximum of five students per instructor in order to enable rapid responses). This course is part of the 15 ECTS THIC minor intended for students who are highly motivated to develop an interdisciplinary perspective on designing healthy and inclusive cities. Students from different backgrounds will acquire a thorough understanding of these concepts and learn how to analyse related questions from the academic disciplines of urban planning and design, urban geography, public health, sociology, and public administration. You will also be trained to apply this knowledge in designing socio-spatial strategies in Dutch planning cases aimed at mitigating urban inequalities.
