Entrepreneurial Engineering and Design for the Built Environment

Beschrijving

Initiated by staff members from the Departments of MBE, A, U and AE&T, this entrepreneurship project is a collaboration with the Faculties of Technology, Policy and Management, Civil Engineering and Geosciences, and Industrial Design Engineering, the BK-Launch Community and The Green Village. The aim of this studio is to tackle urgencies in the world around us, such as climate adaptation, energy transition, urban inequality, conservation of building materials, and biodiversity for buildings and cities. It cultivates interaction between knowledge-based design and entrepreneurship. A diversity of students together will develop products, designs or services that have the potential to initiate new ventures and possible solutions, and have a tangible, positive impact in the built environment. In general: Science, society and technology are not isolated phenomena. Opinions and methods have a background; decisions have social consequences over time. Students of this course learn and use this and can integrate these insights into their academic work, by means of an iterative development process between design and entrepreneurial planning.

Toetsing

Deliverables to assess:
- Final Project Report (incl design, service or product, and entrepreneurial plan)
- Project Process Report / Reflection Paper
- Presentation

In general: individual and team evaluation and assessment of the Project Report in which the design, product, prototype or service is described, explained, clarified and presented. Furthermore, assessment of the presentations, collaboration, and reflection written by student:

1 Final Report: = Integrated Design/Product/Prototype and Entrepreneurial Plan
The student is responsible for the entire project report (teamgrade 40%) as well as for an individual Part (individual grade 20%). Individual part depends on the type of project, and will be determined in consultance with the tutorteam at completion of the Project Plan.

2 Individual Team Performance (contribution of individual student tot he team process
(individual :10% )

3 Reflection Paper: individual 10%

4 Presentation and Communication: team grade 10% individual 10%

Ergo: teamcijfer 50%, en individueel cijfer 50%.
(Q5 courses are meant for students to work, develop and learn together in an interdisciplinary synergy. For that reason, the team grade is 50%)

REPAIR
Students pass the course with a 6.0 or higher. With a lower grade, the course can be repaired to change the grade into a pass. The repair is unsupervised and needs to be completed within 2 weeks after the end of the course. When the repair is unsuccessful, the student needs to follow the entire course again, or possibly another Q5 elective in the third education period.
