Creative Robotics in Spatial Design
Beschrijving
This course explores robotics technologies within the creative industries, particularly those closely relevant to spatial design. It is a research and design project taught through collaboration between the Architecture and Built Environment, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Design Engineering faculties and involves RoboHouse and TU Delft Science Centre. It aims to enhance students’ understanding of robotics through applied, critical, and speculative approaches focusing on the relationships between robots, humans, and environments. In this course, the students will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative concepts and applied solutions by using robotics. They will develop skills and knowledge in human-robot interaction, computer vision, machine learning, coding, and digital crafting. They will integrate them to create tangible projects addressing the design, production, or use of built environments.
Toetsing
The course will include weekly formative assessments (feedback) on the team project during studio hours. Additionally, there will be two summative (graded) assessments as below:
Midterm assessment (Week 4, presentation of the project proposal): 30% of the final course grade.
Final assessment (Week 10, presentation of the final project): 70% of the final course grade.
Both midterm and final assessments will include team (50%) and individual grades (50%).
The projects will be assessed as a whole, not through independent deliverables.
Students pass the course with a 6.0 or higher. With a lower grade, the course can be repaired to change the grade into a pass. The repair is unsupervised and needs to be completed within 2 weeks after the end of the course (when the final grade is announced). When the repair is unsuccessful, the student needs to follow the entire course again, or possibly another Q5 elective in the third education period.
