Adaptive Reuse of Heritage Graduation Studio

As our society evolves, many buildings lose their original purpose. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 ended the so-called Cold War period. Shelters, underground bunkers, command posts, emergency seats that had been built because of political and nuclear threat became largely unused and abandoned. This studio focuses on the revitalization of this military heritage, from the twilight of the Second World War until the 1990s. Students create a redesign and a programmatic change of the obsolete buildings or complexes. The main challenge is to adapt the building for future use while reacting to its cultural-historical significance.
