Architecture and Philosophy Lecture Seminar
Beschrijving
Students in this lecture-seminar course will be introduced to a host of concepts through conversation-style encounters, and collective readings of three short texts. In these texts, we will examine together current topics of technology, culture, and the environment articulated through philosophy and architectural thinking.
Students in this course are encouraged to 'freely associate' thoughts that emerge from the group discussions and the reading of the texts, relating them to the architectural domain.
Toetsing
This course is assessed with the "thought piece" writing assignment.
Students are asked to write a set of three "thought pieces": short, open-scope texts in which the students will generate writings and other forms of creative expression, including reflections of the discussions of the seminars; speculations on specific ideas, thoughts or topics; narrative or story-telling experiments; etc. Students are free to choose the modality and thematic of these thought pieces. More information on the "Thought Pieces" is available in the course syllabus.
The "thought piece" assignment consisting of three pieces (one per seminar session) is submitted in bundled form at the end of the quarter in week 3.10
Repair
The assignment is awarded a grade that is a whole or half number between 1.0 and 10.0. Students pass the course with a 6.0 or higher. With a grade below 6.0: students who handed in assessable work during the course can choose to hand in an improved assignment (repair) during the next exam period (on the condition that an initial assignment was handed in during the course) to change the grade into a ‘pass’. An assignment can be repaired only once. When the repair is unsuccessful, the student needs to follow the entire course again.
