EXTREME Architecture

The project is about building in an extreme situation, with respect to climate, location and function. Essence is the interaction between the extreme circumstances, the technical solutions, and the architecture. Extreme circumstances do request technical solutions which will be the starting point for the design development. The designer has to direct the 'engineer questions and answers', towards the articulation of the form which is based on the integration of aesthetic and technology.

In the end, the student is able to understand technical solutions, to reflect on them, to applicate them and to transform them. And the student is able to design a coherent design result.

Design examination. A design examination is an active assessment, during or at the end of the educational period, with a design (drawings, models, reports, oral presentation) as a final product. During the educational period, the student receives feedback on the progress and how to develop the design and design process. Examples of end products: drawings (on paper, digital), scale models, reports, reflection, presentations.

If products are missing at the final presentation the project cannot be assessed and the student fails the project.

If products are missing and the project is of sufficient quality, the teacher can offer the student a repair. For the repair, the student has to produce the missing products within two weeks after the original presentation. The products have to be uploaded to Brightspace, there will not be a new presentation. The result of the repair can be a V (=completed) or F (=fail).
