Materialisation: The Future Envelope

This course focuses on the technical development of the enveloping architecture. The object of the course is to challenge the student to think about developments in facade technology and innovation- or research opportunities.

The course consists of a capita selecta of recent buildings of which we invite different involved experts to discus the different relevant disciplines.

Lectures:

We will invite experts from the TU, the industry and engineering firms to lecture about buildings they have been involved in. The students are required to analyse the buildings and prepare questions prior to the lectures.

Excursions:

We organize excursions to construction site and/or product manufacturers in cooperation with the course Technoledge facade design. For these excursions students will have to pay a nominal fee. 

Design Assignment:

During the course the students design a flexible or adaptable pavilion.

All work will be groupwork. The individual contributions will be evaluated by the student-teams which will lead to individual grades.

Repair and retake:

The assignment is awarded a grade that is a whole or half number between 1.0 and 10.0. Students pass the course with a 6.0 or higher. With a grade below 6.0: students who handed in assessable work during the course can choose to hand in an improved assignment (repair) within three weeks of receiving their original grade to convert the grade to a "pass." An assignment can be repaired only once. If the correction is unsuccessful, the student must retake the entire course
