Adaptive Strategies Past, Present, Future: Topics in the History of Architecture and Urban Planning
Beschrijving
History matters to design, yes, but in what way?
This course explores prominent themes in the history of architecture and urban planning in relation to contemporary challenges. Different ways of investigation (mapping, archival research, etc.) are used to discuss and question the relationship with current scientific and practical disciplines as well as the design discipline.
The course aims to activate the past for the design of the future. It does this through a focus on critical spaces, such as (but not limited to) port cities in times of transition. Previous case studies have included Beirut, Naples, Rotterdam, Venice, Dunkirk, Rabat/Sale, Casablanca, Tangier.
