Academic Research Project
Beschrijving
This course is part of the Pre-PhD orientation of the MSc Applied Physics.
The research project comprises 12EC, the equivalent of 2 months of full-time work. The work is done in an academic research group outside TU Delft.
You will work as a member of a research group and collaborate with other students, PhD students, postdocs, technicians and group leaders.
You will work on a specific research topic of your choice, doing experiments or simulations and generating new ideas for further research.
You apply knowledge from the master programme to the research subject.
You obtain new skills necessary for the project.
The project consists of:
Literature study, problem formulation and planning.
Practical and theoretical work in a research group including interpretation and evaluation of the results.
Oral or/and written presentation of the work (at the discretion of the local supervisor).
The project is overseen by a TU Delft monitor (examiner) and an external supervisor.
TU Delft monitor role: the student has to find a suitable TU Delft Staff (Applied Sciences) to approve the project before beginning. During the project the student will report to the TU Delft examiner about progress made on the project. At the end, the student will present the work (presentation or report) done to the monitor for evaluation. The TU Delft monitor is the only examiner of the project.
The external supervisor role: staff from the external institution, he/she is responsible for the day-to-day supervision. At the end of the project, the supervisor will be asked to submit a feedback form (see Brightspace) to the TU Delft monitor to help in the assessment of the project. Direct contact between the two is recommended if necessary.
