Environmental Physics

• Fundamentals of the environmental physics, world climate and the greenhouse-model, durable energy-resources (solar-, wind-, wave-, nuclear-, biomass-energy), transport of pollution in ecosystems, Air Quality;

• Fundamentals of nuclear energy, reactor physics modelling, waste production and characteristics;

• Land-atmosphere interactions and turbulent transport processes. Fundamentals of dimensional analysis en generalization in environmental physics;

• Radiative transfer en Solar cell physics, PV system design en Renewable energy integration;

• Environmental noise, basic theory, noise calculation schemes.

There is a series of mandatory (homework) Assignments. Please note that the Assignments have to be done in the prescribed periods, and that grades cannot be improved later. Lecturers can invite students for an oral assessment of their Assignments. The grade for the Assignments is the mean over all of them.

At the end of the course there will be a written Exam. This Exam will be of an open-book type.
The exam will be done in a computer room. The computer will contain the PDFs of the book and PDFs of all handouts of the lectures, without access to internet. Besides this, you can take one A4 double-sides printed or hand-written with anything you prefer.

The final grade of the course is the average of the Exam grade and the Assignment grade.

A passing grade can only be obtained if a score of at least 5.0 is obtained for both the Exam and for the Assignments.

The Assignments and Exam must be done in the same academic year. The validity of result of the Assignments is restricted to one academic year.

Resit exam can be a written exam (if enough candidates) or via an oral assessment (by appointment).
