Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources in Society
Beschrijving
A series of lectures that provide content and context related to different Geo-Energy applications (i.e., geothermal energy, CO2 storage, hydrogen storage), different types of Critical Raw Material Geo-Resources, the types and scales of geological and geophysical data and their suitability for constraining geological uncertainties, methods for exploring and appraising the subsurface, geological heterogeneity and related uncertainties, decision-making and risks
A scenario-planning exercise where complex interconnected technical and moral decisions when developing and utilizing the subsurface resources in a fictional country in way that is fair to society, but where no optimal solution exists
A serious game in which the students continuously interpret and assess data and other information relevant to the inter-disciplinary development of a Geo-Energy or Geo-Resources project; each week, additional data and information become available and students have to complete a specific tasks (contextualised via the lectures) to move their project forward; students can also “buy” additional data at different scales to constrain uncertainties and de-risk their projects, but smart choices have to be made as not every dataset is equally valuable; students will also be confronted with societal and political challenges during the game which can disrupt their project; the game can have a winner but the ranking of “winning” teams does not determine the final grade
