  • Mineral resources: fundamental need for resources for society, growing demand for resources for the energy transition, maximal use of resources/resource efficiency, global supply and demand and sustainability and circularity of supply.

  • What: Ore deposit styles

  • Reference will be made to the following specific commodities:

    • Copper, Iron

    • Energy transition: Overview on required commodities, specifically Platinum group elements, Critical Raw Materials (Rare Earth Elements, Cobalt, Lithium).

  • How: Exploration and discovery methods

  • Where: the mining value chain:

    • Exploration,

    • Resource Definition/modelling,

    • Mining,

    • Mineral processing,

    • Final product,

    • Circularity and recycling.

  • Why: Importance of Resource Modelling and Estimation in the Value Chain of Mining,

    • The use of computer-aided tools for resource modelling

    • Explorative Data Analysis,

    • Model Assumptions of Stationarity and Ergodicity,

    • Variography and Variogram Modelling of mineral resources,

    • Geostatistical Methods for Spatial Estimation including Simple Kriging and Ordinary Kriging for application of mineral resource modelling.

  • Grade Tonnage Curves, with reference to real practical examples,

  • Introduction to CRIRSCO-based International Reporting standards (example JORC Code).
