Geological Fieldwork: Data Acquisition
Beschrijving
Classroom instruction: introduction to the fieldwork, lectures on geological mapping techniques and cross-section construction.
Fieldwork: basic field observations and interpretations, mapping and sampling techniques, use of remote sensing techniques, aerial photographs and topographic base maps, compiling a data report with accompanying maps and cross-sections in accordance with international standards.
Toetsing
Formative Pre-fieldwork: assignments, to be handed in before the fieldwork
Formative: During fieldwork:
feed back during a progress meeting after about 10 days of field work,
feedback on participation by all supervisors
feedback on two written and hand-drawn data reports, one on the geology, one on the remote sensing excersizes, to be handed in on the last day of the fieldwork.
Judgement: Grades will be given to the following parts of the course:
the two final reports (geology en remote sensing) handed in at the end of the period
All parts will count equally for the final grade.
There is no resit: if students fail, students have to redo the fieldwork at their own expense.
