Rock Mechanics
Beschrijving
The main goal of this course is to understand and be able to apply the principles of rock mechanics to a range of rock engineering applications, including the design of underground and surface excavations.
The course is divided in 6 modules:
Concepts of stress and strain
Behaviour of intact rock
Underground excavations
In situ stress
Rock mass characterisation and behaviour of discontinuities
Surface excavations
Toetsing
Group assignments (45% of the final grade)
Closed-book written exam on the whole course content (55% of the final mark)
AES Information Literacy 2 module (Pass/fail)
