Numerical Mathematics
Beschrijving
This is an introductory course in numerical analysis. Subjects of the course: introduction numerical analysis, interpolation, numerical differentiation, numerical methods for initial value problems, numerical methods for boundary value problems, numerical integration, methods to solve non-linear systems of equations.
Toetsing
Permitted Materials during Exam
Non-programmable, non-graphical pocket calculator during on-campus exams
The course is assessed by two component examinations:
a written exam (mark, rounded to tenths), which may include a part using assessment software on the students own laptop;
lab work practical containing 3 assignments with reports (V/O).
There is also the possibility to do online exercises in the 2nd period, which will result in a mark M, rounded to tenths.
In the 2nd period the exam mark E and the mark M obtained in the same period give a final exam mark F using the formula:
F = max{E,0.85E+0.15M} if E>=5, rounded to tenths. Otherwise and/or in the 3rd period F = E.
The lab work reports are graded as V or O, where the lab work result L is a V if all three reports are a V.
If F>=5 and L=V, the final mark R of the course is R = F, rounded to halves and wholes.
