Beschrijving

Maintenance is a critical operational activity in aviation, and is crucial to retain the aircrafts airworthiness. With the current developments in AI, the field of maintenance is quickly evolving as well, and new maintenance strategies involve methods from machine learning and data science. However, also classical reliability methods, probability and statistics remain very important in the field of maintenance. This course will cover all these topics. Specifically, the course consists of three parts where you will learn to:

I Introduction to maintenance:

1. Describe the concepts of maintenance and reliability.

2. Apply the basic theories and models of probability and statistics to a variety of problems (recap).

II Preventive maintenance (i.e., classical reliability methods):

1. Describe the concepts of preventive maintenance.

2. Fit an appropriate distribution to historically observed lifetimes of the component

3. Optimize a preventive maintenance strategy based on the usage of the component, using stochastic processes.

If there is time left, you will also learn the basics of optimizing the inventory (spare parts) management.

III Predictive maintenance:

1. Describe the concepts from predictive maintenance.

2. Estimate the current and future degradation and predict the failure time (remaining useful life) of aircraft components with various machine learning/data science techniques.
