Knowledge Based Engineering
Beschrijving
The course will provide a theoretical and practical introduction to Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) technology, as a means to address complex engineering problems through design automation/digitalization principles.
Other addressed topics, strictly related to KBE include
- UML/SysMl modelling language (class and activity diagrams)
- object oriented modelling paradigm
Toetsing
There is no conventional written exam for this course.
The assessment is based on the quality of a KBE app to be developed at home by teams of two students and demonstrated live during an oral examination session. Two examination sessions are planned per academic year.
The KBE app is supposed to address a relevant engineering design problem, which will be proposed by the student teams in the early phase of the course.
The proposed KBE assignment descriptions will require lecturer's approval.
If during the oral examination the quality of the developed KBE application and its demonstration are evaluated to be unsatisfactory, the team will have to use the retake session.
For the retake session, two options are offered:
1) submit and present an improved version of the app proposed for the nominal session. One penalty point applies.
2) submit and present a totally different app than proposed for the nominal session. No penalty points. The new KBE assignment proposal will have to be delivered after the nominal session and will require lecture's approval.
The oral examinations (nominal and retake sessions) are taking place around the beginning and the end of the second period of the course (i.e. 4th quarter of the academic year), not necessarily during the standard exam weeks.
Delivery dates and examinations days are announced at the beginning of the course
