Dynamics
Beschrijving
This course introduces the basic concepts of kinematics and kinetics that are necessary to understand, analyze and design a variety of mechanisms and machines, such as airplanes, automobiles or satellites. Dynamics is concerned with the description and analysis of the movement of particles and rigid bodies (kinematics) and the relations between kinematics and kinetics (mass and forces). The course covers the equations of motion and derived methods of analysis, namely the work-energy relation and the linear and angular impulse-momentum relations.

Weekly quizzes that will be given indicative grades for feedback, but do not count towards the final grade (formative feedback). A list of recommended problems will be provided that can be used to practice for the weekly quizzes.
Written final exam (with an entry requirement) covering all course learning objectives worth 10 points (100% of final grade).
A resit exam opportunity (with an entry requirement) will be offered in the exam period of the subsequent quarter in which the course is offered. The resit will be worth 10 points (100% of final grade).
Entry requirement for the final/resit exam: Students are eligible to take the final exam within the academic year in which a student has met the threshold for the number of required honest attempts for weekly quizzes. An attempt at a particular weekly quiz is seen as honest, if the paperwork that was submitted shows that a clear attempt was made to solve the problem(s) given in the particular weekly quiz. Students who did not meet the entry requirement for the final exam will be offered a repair opportunity for the resit exam. More details about the weekly quizzes and requirements for entry in the final exam and repair thereof will be explained in the first lecture of the course.
All course material (book, lecture slides, assignments) will be in English. To avoid confusion between English and Dutch language terminology all relevant terms will be taught in English. Therefore all exams will be in English only. This includes the number format used (decimal point instead of comma, etc.).
